History

John Wulff began his career as a camera operator at a local television station in Memphis, Tennessee. Fully intending to study to become a dentist, he applied for the job on a lark, looking for some extra money. Immediately, he was hooked. He says, "I found it fascinating that it took so many people, working toward the same goal to create something wonderful and unique." After a few years working with live television and commercial production, John did a short 5 year stint as an engineer in the recording business, working with such recording artists as Barbara Brown, Lou Rawls, The Ovations, The Guilloteens, Rufus Thomas, Ronnie Millsap, Booker T and the MG's, The Barkays and others. In addition to engineering, John has produced a couple of record albums. |
During his TV days, while directing a popular music video program in the 70's, John directed television appearance videos for Aretha Franklin, B. J. Thomas, Dionne Warwick, Paul Revere and the Raiders, Herman's Hermits, Peter, Paul and Mary, Leo Sayer, Johnny and June Carter Cash, The Dave Clark Five, Jackson Browne, The Righteous Brothers, The Seekers, Loretta Lynn and others. John eventually landed at the ABC Television Network working as a director in the news division.
His other business, Wulff Media Forensics, focuses on collecting and analyzing data from computer systems to track user-based activity that can be used internally or in civil/criminal litigation. John posses a firm understanding of computer forensics tools and techniques to investigate data breach intrusions, tech-savvy rogue employees, advanced persistent threats, and complex digital forensic cases. Forensic investigators must master a variety of operating systems, investigation techniques, incident response tactics, and even legal issues in order to solve challenging cases. To this end, John has been exposed to critical forensic analysis techniques and tools in a hands-on setting for both Windows and Linux-based investigations. WMF has examined various investigation methodologies and techniques, discovering new places to find evidence and discover the tracks of a cyber criminal or hacker, who is trying to stay hidden inside a network. While he prefers to use Mac-based live and analytical software suites and tools, John also uses the best tool for the job, whether it be AccessData’s FTK, Encase, SMART, Sleuthkit, Foremost, and the HELIX3 Pro Forensics Live CD and HELIX Live Response.
